School History


Location

　Taikyu High School is one of the oldest schools in Japan. It is located in Yuasa-Town on the west coast of Wakayama-Prefecture. The population of Yuasa-Town is about fifteenthousand people. The area is famous for its mikan oranges and soy sauce.

School Size

　Taikyu High School has approximately one thousand students with 8 classes of 40 students in each grade(24 classes). The school has 70 teachers and 8 office staff.

Educational Programs

　Taikyu High School has three main programs for grade 10 students; natural science,humanities and general courses. Grade 11 offers four programs; natural science, humanities, general math and sciences and general arts. In grade 12, 5 programs are offered similar programs as grade 11 plus one program, which conbines the general math, science and arts courses.

School Motto and Philosophy



The school incorporates Truth, Health, and Beauty in all educational aspects. 
 　Truth  ; To strive for the truth and be a sincere person
 　Health ; To train the mind and body and have a strong will
　 Beauty ; To develop individual character and proper sense of morals

[ Origin ] This ideology was introduced in 1904 by Yoshio Takayama, the principal of Taikyu Gakusha. 
　　　　　 This philosophy is still present today.

School Characteristics

　The Taikyu High School philosophy Truth, Health, Beauty encourages students to lead a balanced life-style. Each student's ability is respected and the school encourages freeand liberal thought.

　The school year consists of two semisters; first semister-April to October and second semister-November to March.

　Each class is 65 minutes long. Each grade has a different program ( see Educational Program ).　Ability grouping classes are used for English and Math subjects.

　Taikyu High School has a exchange student system with sister high school in cambridge city in the United States and Kerikeri city in Newzealand.

　The school has many annual events, such as Long Hiking, Athletic Meets, Cultural Festival and School Trips to cultural centers and cities.
